Sunday School Names, Ages and Teachers:
Nix Class by Ronnie Clement
The Nix Class is an adult class that began in the late 1970’s.  When first formed, classmates met in the Pastor’s office for about a year but as the group started to grow, they moved to the Bride’s Room.  After meeting there for a few years, a classroom became available. The class then met in the Kirk Building for several years.  In 2010, the class moved to their present meeting location in the southwest corner of the Education building.  In about 1982, Dale Curry proposed that the class be named “The James & Lucille Nix Class” as James had been teaching the class for several years. James and Lucille Nix are long time members of the LFUMC and reside right across the street from the church. Lucille passed several years ago and James is now a classmate of The Nix Class.  In 2012, Ronnie Clement became the teacher.  The class discusses Methodist literature with a lesson each Sunday based on Scripture. Attendance is usually between 15 – 25 members and range from mid to late twenties to mid-eighties.

Ethel Smith Class by Diana Finley
The Ethel Smith Class was taught and founded by Mrs. Ethel Smith who was a lifetime member of LUMC.  She passed in the 2000s and since her passing, the class has had several teachers.  Presently, Diana Finley is the teacher until they can find someone permanently.  Each Sunday they met in the Education building to the left of the kitchen.  Ages range from 75 and up.  Studies consist of Wesleyan Bible Studies and learning more about God's teachings from the Bible.

New Covenant Class/Contemporary Adult (30 - 50) by Kristen Peek
The New Covenant (Contemporary Adult) class began in 2012.  When first formed, few classmates met in the nursery room, later moved to the Kirk Building for several years and presently meets in the southeast corner of the Education building. A laid back, 30 plus member strong of couples, singles, and single parents ranging from age 30-50ish.  We discuss contemporary issues, relating the 1st century to the 21st century, using Biblical translations in organized lessons each week with open diverse discussions on parenting, relationships and current topics all while focus on love, laughter, fellowship and service. To coin a phrase by one of our long-time members, “those that pray together, play together!”  Always striving for Reaching, Growing and Serving Jesus Christ.

Young Adult Class (18 - 30) by Janie Sexton and Pastor Rob
The Young Adult Class began in late 2018 and is the newest Sunday school class to our church.  Currently meeting in the fellowship hall, college students and younger adults meet to learn and ask questions.  We discuss how everyday life relates to the bible and Jesus’ actions.  Some previous book studies have included “Thirty Questions” by Timothy C. Tennent and “The Means of Grace” by Andrew C. Thompson.  Since being the “new kids on the block”, we are still finding  our class grounds…BUT we have found a way to make each other laugh every Sunday morning!

Youth Group Class (7th - 12th) by Cheryl Anderson

Children (2nd - 5th) by Jannette Boyles

In the Beginning (Early Elementary Kids) by Betty Fletcher
This class is for children 3-7 years old and is appropriately named "In the Beginning".  Children enjoy being with their  church friends each Sunday morning.  They join in the first child's room on the right near the sanctuary. Kids worship God with a lesson, activity, snack and play time.  They learn to be with God, love God and neighbor, understand themselves as a child of God all while exploring faith and the Bible. Megan Johnson assists teaching this class.

11:00 AMClassic Worship

Those who grew up in a congregation that featured "traditional" worship will find themselves connected to their roots in this service.  A piano and a choir lead us in lifting praises to God in this service.  This worship gathering is more structured than our contemporary service, yet warm and informal enough that the familiar sounds made by "kids being kids" are welcomed by all with a smile. Our nursery is available during this service for children 6 weeks through Kindergarten.
